About Lucy

The loveable and hugely likeable Lucy Porter will be touring her new show 'Lucy Porter- People Person' throughout the UK this year, after a successful Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Summer, 2012. This followed her numerous sell out Edinburgh shows including 'Fools Gold', (2009) 'The Bare Necessities,(2008) and 'Lucy Porter's Love In'(2007) which she took to venues across UK for a full nationwide 40 date sell out tour. Since 2001, Lucy has been a huge hit with comedy audiences up and down the country with her distinctive, bouncy, feel-good comedy. There's always a philosophical element to her shows, covering the topics that matter in her life: The erosion of our civil liberties, the rise of surveillance society, the infantilization of grown-ups, the reason why so many comedians are depressive alcoholics and the ingredients for a really excellent dirty martini. As a writer and performer, Lucy has continued to contribute to panel and sketch shows on BBC Radio 2 and 4. She authored a documentary celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Mills and Boon in which she talked to authors, addicts and Mills and Boon rejects such as Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding. Lucy has also turned her hand to acting, she recently played the leading role in Guy Jenkin's (Outnumbered and Drop the Dead Donkey) new sitcom pilot Fried Brain Sandwich. She also stars in three 5 minute vignettes entitled Lucy Loves You, a series of mini sitcom episodes about her bizarre home life. On TV you may have recently seen her emerge victorious from a well-fought battle for the title of Celebrity Mastermind Champion in a special edition of the show for Children in Need. Lucy fended off stiff competition from Mark Watson and Dave Spikey and broke records by achieving the highest ever celebrity score. She has also appeared on two series of Mock the Week, two series of Argumental for the Dave Channel and appeared on Have I got News for You,with Ann Widdicombe and Danny Baker. Lucy has also been a guest on Clive Anderson's Chat Room, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and What the Dickens? Lucy has added much to the store of human knowledge by appearing on yet more '100 Best things' shows (will they never end?), and offered herself up for humiliation on Rob Brydon's BBC show 'Anually Retentive'. A self-confessed pub quiz addict, in June 2007 Lucy came second only to Rob Deering in the comedy special of 'The Weakest Link'. Lucy has further developed her skills as a gagsmith and remains amongst the most sought-after comedy writers in Britain. Lucy was one of the lead writers on ITV1's prime-time Sunday night satirical animation series 'Headcases'. She's been responsible for turning Dames Helen Mirren and Judi Dench into mouthy Croydon girls, Robert Mugabe into a West Country farmer, and Angelina Jolie into an evil sweatshop gangmaster. In the summer of 2008 she also performed at the prestigious Kilkenny festival, as well as other mud-soaked festivals such as Latitude. Lucy has also written for Johnny Vaughan, Adam and Joe, Griff Rhys Jones and even Jimmy Tarbuck. She has interviewed porn legend Ben Dover and flexed her TV Pop-Quiz muscles with Noddy Holder. Lucy is also developing a drama series (working title 'Good Girls') for BBC1. Lucy has supported Puppetry of The Penis on the 40 date tour as well as the more socially acceptable Ardal O'Hanlon. Lucy played Nurse Flinn, in the critically acclaimed, box-office record breaking run of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest in Edinburgh and London's West End, alongside Cristian Slater. She also acted in BBC 2's Broken News. Lucy has continued to travel internationally with her stand-up – taking in the far East (including shows in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Macau and Manila), Switzerland and Paris. She was also invited to Miami to take part in NBC's 'Last Comic Standing'.
